Introduction, I am.....
Hi All,
I am Cian Carroll, I’m 22 and currently a fourth-year student studying Bachelor of
Business, specialising in Management and organisation. Conveniently, I live 5
minutes away from the college campus and have done so for most of my life.
I live in
my childhood home with my mam and two brothers, I also have a twin sister. My
sister is planning to emigrate to Australia in November, which is a big change,
but once graduated from SETU if I plan on doing the same, it would be great to visit
her over there.
I play for
a local hurling club Roanmore, for those of you on an Erasmus and unfamiliar
with hurling I recommend you look on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ-TOK2FiI4 .
I
previously attended De la Salle college, and prior to that primary school in a
Gaelscoil. My youngest brother is still attending the same Gaelscoil, so I
enjoy having conversations with him “As Gaeilge”.
For the
last 8 months I worked in Stryker in Co. Cork, a medical device manufacturer.
Brought in as operations management intern, I got to experience the what the day-to-day
operations of an additive manufacturing plant looks like, I got to implement
continuous improvement initiatives, with a focus on leaning out work areas, and
I had the opportunity to assist with the planning and the mapping out of the new
production cell being set up.
Since returning from my work placement, I have gained a
completely different perspective on the modules I am currently studying. The
experience of being in a real workplace environment has allowed me to see how
many of the theories and concepts we are taught can be applied in practice.
Tasks I carried out and observed during my placement have given me a deeper
understanding of how these theories function in a workplace setting.
Hell Yeah dude!
